how to hint for gifts?

ok don't get me wrong here. i do appreciate that my family puts thought and gets some pretty nice gifts around christmas. the thing is, for 10 years now, i haven't gotten a single gift i actually use. it seems like a waste of their money when it's just gonna go to waste.

the wierd thing is i like things that would make horrible gifts to most people. i would love a book or some cute socks (you can never get enough socks). i also love puzzles and crayons and drawing stuff.

how do i politely hint that i don't want another bath set, bottle of perfume, make up kit or curling iron/straightner. as i said, i appreciate the thought but i prefer plain soap and shampoo, don't wear make up or perfume and pretty much just keep my hair down plain or in a pony tail. i do thank them and act grateful of course. i am polite about it.

so how do i try to give my relatives a hint?
also i get atleast 3 purses each year.. and never use purses

Is there one person that if you told them this would spread your feelings around? I personally have just told people for the fact that I don't like money being wasted and made sure those I told knew this.
